Canadian Woman in ICE Custody After Alleged Boardwalk Slap

On July 3, 33‑year‑old Kaitlyn Tracey allegedly confronted a group of teenagers on the Jersey Shore boardwalk and slapped a girl wearing sweatpants that bore the words “Trump” and “ICE.”
Arrest and Charges
Tracey was arrested on Monday and now faces charges of endangering the welfare of a child, simple assault, harassment and obstruction.
Detention
After being taken to Ocean County Jail, she was transferred to the Delaney Hall immigration detention center in Newark, where she remains while fighting her case.
Husband’s Defense
Her husband, Matthew Geroni, says the episode was minor and that “conservatives on the internet” turned it into a crisis that led to her detention. He insists his wife has never been in trouble before and is not a violent person.

Tracey entered the United States on April 14, 2024 on a visa that expired on September 6, 2024. An ICE spokesperson said she was taken into custody because she overstayed that visa.

Geroni reports receiving death threats and being doxxed by online groups, prompting him to delete or privatize his social‑media accounts. He maintains the video of the incident is taken out of context and that his wife was not the aggressor.
