OAS Benefit Increase Takes Effect This Month

Eligible seniors receiving Old Age Security (OAS) will notice a modest rise in their payments when the final deposit is posted on Wednesday or when a mailed cheque arrives for those not enrolled in direct deposit.

How Much Is OAS Rising?

The benefit is reviewed each quarter using the consumer price index, and it grew 1.2 % during the July‑to‑September period. Since July 2025, OAS has risen 2.3 %, marking the largest quarterly jump since a 1.3 % increase in October 2024.

What Is the New Maximum Payment Amount?

For seniors aged 65 to 74 with net annual income under $152,062, the maximum monthly OAS payment is now $751.97, up from $743.05. Seniors aged 75 and older with net income below $157,923 will see their maximum payment rise to $827.17 from $817.36.

What Happens If the Cost of Living Declines?

Legislation guarantees that OAS payments will not decrease even if the cost of living falls, ensuring seniors retain their current benefit level.

When Are the Next Payments?

The upcoming OAS disbursements are scheduled for August 29 and September 25, with another adjustment to be applied in October.

Other OAS‑Related Benefits Also Rise

The quarterly CPI adjustment also affects three additional OAS supplements: the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) for low‑income seniors, a supplement for low‑income adults aged 60‑64 whose partners receive GIS, and a survivor supplement for low‑income individuals in the same age group who have not remarried.

Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) Update

For a single, widowed or divorced recipient, the GIS maximum payment has increased to $1,123.17 per month, up from $1,097.75 the previous July. A spouse who receives an allowance or OAS gets half of this amount. The monthly payment cap for grant recipients is now $1,428.06, while survivor payments stand at $1,702.34.
