Canadians can easily measure stress using a new app

New App Aims to Measure Stress with a 30‑Second Smartphone Scan

In honour of World Brain Day, the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) has teamed up with Mobio Interactive to launch Dawn DTx, an app that estimates stress levels using a quick photo of your face taken on a smartphone.

Partnership and Launch

The app, called Dawn DTx, is a collaboration between OBI and Mobio Interactive. Its debut aligns with World Brain Day, highlighting a timely focus on mental well‑being.

Five‑Day Brain Health Challenge

From Wednesday through Sunday, Canadians can take part in the free TruSelf Five‑Day Brain Health Challenge. Participants complete short, 30‑second facial scans several times a day, receiving a personalized stress report at the end of the period.

To register for the challenge, visit braininstitute.ca.

Expert Insight

Dr. Tom Mikkelsen, clinical neurologist and CEO of OBI, explains that the assessment itself isn’t magical; the real value lies in tracking trends and gaining insight into how stress influences daily life.

He notes that stress can be motivating during focused work periods, yet it may become burdensome when it interferes with rest and recovery.

Benefits and Campaign Message

The app offers a simple, science‑based method to observe how stress affects concentration, sleep, mood, productivity, and overall well‑being. After four to five years of research involving thousands of participants, Dawn DTx aims to provide an accessible tool for managing stress.

The campaign’s core message is clear: “Stress is not the problem. Misunderstandings are.” By understanding personal stress metrics, users can develop informed plans to handle stress more effectively.
