Personal Struggles of Longtime Supporters
Kerri Ludvigsen, a longtime Saskatchewan Roughriders fan, said it is the first time in decades that a close friend told her she no longer feels like attending a game.
“She said, ‘It’s going to be so hard and I’m divided about it,’” Ludvigsen recalled on Wednesday.
Ludvigsen urged her friend not to abandon the team simply because the situation is difficult, emphasizing that challenges should not lead to withdrawal.
Players and Staff Coping with Loss
The Roughriders’ players and coaching staff are dealing with significant grief, uncertainty, and many unanswered questions following the tragedy.
“They are struggling with great loss, with more questions and uncertainty than we are,” Ludvigsen added, highlighting the need for collective support.
Details of the Highway Crash
RCMP reported that linebacker Jayden Dalke, 30, of Leduc, Alberta, was driving on the wrong side of a divided highway Saturday night when his SUV collided with another SUV driven by Bhishma Rajyaguru, 22, of Regina.
Both vehicles were empty of passengers at the time of impact.
Police said alcohol and cannabis were found in Dalke’s SUV, which had been removed from a gas station after an alleged unpaid fuel incident roughly thirty minutes before the crash.
The collision occurred on Highway 11 near the town of Lumsden, northwest of Regina, and both Dalke and Rajyaguru were pronounced dead at the scene.
Autopsies and toxicology tests are currently underway, but the Saskatchewan Ministry of Justice has stated that results will not be released publicly due to privacy concerns.

Social media and fan forums have been filled with speculation about whether Dalke was impaired at the time of the crash.
Gerri Sernick, administrator of the Roughriders’ official Facebook fan page, said she had to delete harsh comments, including ones suggesting Dalke did not deserve team honors.
“It was truly terrible. Since I started this site I have never seen anything like it,” Sernick wrote on Tuesday.
She stressed that judgments, speculation, and hurtful remarks based on assumptions have no place on the fan page, urging the community to focus on the fact that two young men will not return home to their families.
To preserve decency, several other fan sites and forums have closed comment sections on related posts.
Team’s Response and Plans for Thursday
The Roughriders announced they will honor both Dalke and Rajyaguru before the upcoming game against the Edmonton Elks.
General manager Jeremy O’Day confirmed that players will wear Dalke’s initials on their helmets during the match.
Ludvigsen said she intends to attend the game with her mother, and they will wear black jerseys instead of the team’s usual green and white colors.
“It’s going to be hard,” she said, “but honoring them both is great and necessary.”
A GoFundMe campaign set up for Rajyaguru’s family has raised more than $88,000 to cover the cost of repatriating his body to India.
