Vancouver’s First World Cup Match Passes Without Major Incidents
According to Vancouver police, the city’s first World Cup game between Australia and Turkey concluded without any major incidents. The match, held at BC Place, drew a sold-out crowd of 52,497 fans who witnessed the Socceroos defeat the favored Turkish national team by two goals to nil.
Minor Issues Reported
A statement from the Vancouver Police Department noted that one person was arrested at the Pacific National Exhibition fan festival for violating court-imposed conditions, though the violation was not related to the event itself. A second individual was removed from BC Place during the game due to intoxication and refusal to leave.
Police described the two arrests as minimal given the size of the event, stating the figure would be considered small even for a normal Saturday evening.
Upcoming Match
Vancouver will host its next World Cup game on Thursday, June 18, when Canada takes on Qatar. The city is scheduled to host a total of seven matches at BC Place throughout the tournament.
