Multiple Fatalities in Two-Vehicle Collision in Wellington County
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have confirmed that several people died and others sustained serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision Friday evening in Wellington County, northwest of Guelph.
Details of the Crash
The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of Wellington Road 12 and Fourth Line in Mapleton Township. According to investigators, a van carrying nine people collided with a sport utility vehicle carrying one person at the intersection. All ten individuals involved in the crash were either injured or killed.
Emergency Response
In a video update released overnight, Wellington County OPP Const. Matt Burton described the incident as a “serious collision resulting in multiple injuries and fatalities.” Three patients were airlifted to trauma centers, while several others were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Ongoing Investigation
The OPP Traffic Accident Management and Enforcement team is now assisting in the investigation. Police stated they would not release further details as they worked to notify the victims’ next of kin. The intersection remained closed Saturday while investigators continued to examine the scene.
