Funeral Held for Ontario Provincial Police Officer Killed in the Line of Duty
Colleagues, dignitaries, and family members gathered Thursday in Mississauga to pay their respects at the funeral of Ontario Provincial Police Const. Tarun Bali, who was fatally struck by a vehicle last week in the northern Ontario town of Hearst.
Details of the Incident
The 29-year-old officer was killed as police attempted to stop a man who had fled a hospital in Hearst. An 18-year-old has since been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the incident.
Funeral Arrangements
The memorial service was not open to the general public, but the OPP noted that members of the public were able to view the funeral procession as it traveled west on Highway 407 from Thornhill to the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre.
A Difficult Month for Ontario Law Enforcement
Bali is one of two officers killed while on duty in the province this month. Const. Marc Pinizzotto, a veteran Toronto police officer, was shot and killed last week during a raid connected to an investigation into several shootings, including one at the U.S. Consulate in March.
