Harry Styles sparked concern among fans when he collapsed on stage during a performance at Wembley Stadium in London on Friday, as the United Kingdom sweltered under a record-breaking heatwave.
What Happened During the Show
The 32-year-old singer was performing his signature “whale” move — where he spits water into the air after singing “As It Was” — when he appeared to choke on the water and fell backward on stage, with water running out of his mouth.
Footage captured from the concert shows Styles trying to loosen his tie and placing his hands on his stomach as he attempted to catch his breath. After coughing on the floor and wiping water from his eyes for approximately 17 seconds, he jumped back up, waved to the crowd, and ended the concert.
Styles Assures Fans He Is “Fine”
In a video shared from the concert, Styles told the audience, “It just went the wrong way. Everything’s fine, I’m fine.” The incident sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with fans expressing both concern and admiration for the performer.
“I have to admit I was scared for a few seconds on the livestream,” one fan wrote in the Instagram comments under a post of the footage. Another fan praised his dedication, writing, “Nothing but respect for Harry. Performing concerts during a heatwave on such a huge stage is absolutely incredible.”
Performing Through Extreme Heat
The incident took place during an extreme heatwave that gripped the United Kingdom. According to the BBC, the country recorded the hottest day in June for the third consecutive day on Friday, reaching a temperature of 37.3°C — more than 1°C hotter than the UK’s long-standing June heat record set during the summer of 1976.
The Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, issued an extreme heat warning for parts of eastern and southeast England on Saturday. Muggy conditions gradually eased over the weekend, though a yellow weather warning remained in force until Saturday night.
Styles Returns to the Stage
Despite the scare, Styles returned to perform at Wembley Stadium on Saturday as part of his 12-date “Together, Together” residency in London. After completing his final London show on July 4, he is scheduled to travel to São Paulo, Brazil, and Mexico City before beginning a 30-show run at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
