Bailey Zimmerman Apologizes After Felony Charges for Alleged Hotel Vandalism
Country music star Bailey Zimmerman has publicly apologized following reports that he faces federal and criminal charges related to an alleged vandalism incident at a New Mexico hotel room. The singer, known for his hit “Rock and a Hard Place,” broke his silence in a statement shared with Rolling Stone and Billboard after news of the charges surfaced.
Singer Issues Public Apology to Pueblo of Sandia and Fans
In his statement, Zimmerman addressed the Pueblo of Sandia and his fanbase directly. “I never meant for any of this to come across as disrespectful,” he said, expressing regret over the incident at Sandia Resort & Casino. He added: “I am deeply sorry for my actions. I respect your community and hospitality and appreciate the opportunity I was given to perform at Native Land. I take full responsibility for everything that happened and I am sorry to anyone who feels hurt or disrespected.”
Zimmerman also extended an apology to fans who had purchased tickets and traveled to see his scheduled performance. “I’m so sorry, you deserve better from me. I understand that being a musician comes with great responsibilities, both on and off stage, and I know I fell short that day,” he continued. “I reflect on the disappointment and concern I caused.”
Details of the May 27 Incident
According to a June 18 court filing reviewed by Billboard, People, and Entertainment Weekly, prosecutors issued an arrest warrant for the 26-year-old singer stemming from a May 27 incident. Zimmerman was reportedly charged with criminal damage to property exceeding $1,000 and a misdemeanor count of falsely obtaining services.
The “Never Comin’ Home” singer was originally scheduled to perform at the Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque on that date but canceled the show, citing illness. At the time, he wrote on Instagram: “You know, there’s nothing I love more than touring and playing these shows for you, which is why it’s so hard for me to say this, but I have to reschedule the shows for tonight (5/27) and Saturday (5/30). I haven’t been feeling well and I’ve been trying to hang in there, but I’m not able to give you the show you deserve.”
Allegations of Intoxication and Extensive Property Damage
An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by People revealed further details surrounding the incident. According to the document, Zimmerman reportedly “exhibit signs of intoxication” while interacting with resort staff and during his sound check. The resort allegedly gave him a deadline to leave the property, but he became “disorderly,” prompting staff to contact Sandia police.
The affidavit alleges that housekeepers who entered Zimmerman’s room the next morning discovered more than $16,000 worth of damage. Reported destruction included a broken phone, damaged televisions, a damaged coffee table, chairs, a hole in a wall, carpet stains, and two missing chairs, among other issues. The resort also claimed that Zimmerman charged $400 worth of alcohol to the room and allegedly failed to pay his bill.
Zimmerman Vows to Take Legal Matter Seriously
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, Zimmerman emphasized his commitment to accountability and personal growth in his public statement. “I am taking this legal matter seriously. I am committed to doing the work necessary to learn and grow,” he said. “Thank you to my fans for holding me accountable and understanding that I am human. I do not take your support for granted.”
Global News has noted that it has not independently verified the court records related to the case. As the legal process unfolds, fans and the country music community will be watching closely to see how the situation develops for one of the genre’s rising stars.
