Low pressure prompts a boil water advisory in Kingsville

Boil Water Advisory in Kingsville

Residents of Kingsville who receive water from Union Water Supply are being asked to boil their tap water before drinking, cooking, or using it for any food‑related tasks.

Reason for the Warning

The Windsor‑Essex County Health Unit issued the advisory at 11:20 p.m. on Saturday after a water‑tower failure caused a drop in water pressure throughout the affected area.

What the Health Department Recommends

Officials advise that anyone needing water for consumption, infant feeding, or preparing food and ice should either use bottled water or boil tap water for at least one minute, then let it cool and store it in a clean, covered container.

How to Use Boiled Water Safely

Boiled water is safe for drinking by people and pets, for making ice cubes, and for washing fruits, vegetables, and brushing teeth. Mechanical dishwashers can be used provided the detergent contains chlorine, and hand washing should end with a final rinse in boiled water, bottled water, or a bleach‑treated tap water solution (four teaspoons of unscented household bleach per ten litres of lukewarm water). Dishes should be allowed to air‑dry.

Other Household Uses

Tap water may still be used for routine tasks such as washing hands, doing laundry, showering, and bathing. Adults can shower with tap water as long as they avoid swallowing it, while young children, immunocompromised individuals, and anyone with skin lesions or open wounds should opt for sponge baths using boiled water.

When Will the Advisory End?

The health unit says the boil water notice will stay in effect until Union Water Supply completes the necessary corrective actions.

No Reported Illnesses

At the time of the announcement, there were no confirmed cases of illness linked to the water issue.
