Sunshine Village Unprecedented Snowfall Enables 16-Day Summer Skiing Season
Following a record-breaking winter and late spring, Sunshine Village in Alberta is gearing up for a rare midsummer skiing season, offering enthusiasts a unique opportunity to hit the slopes when most resorts are closed.
A Season of Historic Snow Accumulation
The resort reported that over 4,000 inches (approximately 1,000 centimeters) of snow fell throughout the winter and into late spring. This exceptional accumulation, combined with strategic snow farming techniques, has allowed the mountain to preserve enough snow to support summer operations.
Snow Farming Makes Summer Slopes Possible
Teams at Sunshine Village employed snow farming practices, moving and managing the snowpack to build a base of up to 6 feet in select areas. This effort ensures quality conditions for the resort’s planned 10 slopes, three terrain parks, and two chairlifts, all scheduled to open during June and July.
Extremely Late-Season Skiing Returns
This marks only the third time since the 1990s that the mountain resort has been able to offer skiing this late in the season, highlighting just how unusual the snow conditions have been this year.
Dates, Passes, and Ticket Information
The summer skiing season at Sunshine Village runs from June 20th to July 5th, spanning 16 days. Holders of 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 season passes can enjoy complimentary skiing during this period. For those without season passes, lift tickets are available for purchase.
