Man Drowns in Lake of Two Mountains
Recovery of the Body
Quebec provincial police recovered the body of a man in his 20s from the Lake of Two Mountains, located south of Montreal, on Sunday.
Police Statement
According to police spokesman Kim Cormier, divers retrieved the victim at about 1:30 a.m. on Monday and transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Coroner’s Investigation
The Quebec coroner’s office confirmed that an investigation is under way to determine the cause of death.
Circumstances of the Incident
Emergency services were alerted just before 4 p.m. on Sunday after receiving reports of a person in distress at the lake within Oka National Park.
Police spokeswoman Geneviève Bruneau explained that the man and a woman were swimming when they reached a deeper, unattended part of the water.
Bruneau added that the woman attempted to assist her friend but could not pull him to safety, and was eventually rescued by two individuals who arrived in a boat.
Aftermath
The man did not resurface, and the woman was taken to hospital following the incident.
Police have indicated that investigations are continuing to clarify the exact circumstances surrounding the drowning.
