Toronto Woman Fatally Shot in Downtown Apartment, Man Arrested
Toronto police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was shot and killed at a downtown apartment building on Saturday morning.
According to the Toronto Police Service, officers responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Jarvis Street and Dundas Street East around 9:30 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman in a residence with a gunshot wound.
Emergency crews performed life-saving measures at the scene before paramedics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Incident at 251 Jarvis Street
Police confirmed that the shooting took place inside a unit at 251 Jarvis St. Inspector Dan Pravica of the Toronto Police Service said a resident of the building called 911 after hearing gunshots.
“We are still in the process of notifying next of kin,” Pravica told reporters, adding that the victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public.
Suspect in Custody
A man has been arrested in connection with the investigation, though police have not yet announced formal charges. Investigators say they are still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including the relationship between the victim and the arrested individual.
“Whether the victim and the arrested man are known to each other will be the subject of the investigation,” Pravica said in a statement.
The Toronto Police Service’s Homicide and Missing Persons Unit has taken over the case. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact police.
